Canadian Pacific Engine 4422 waits while traffic clears the tracks. If you listen carefully, you can hear the ghost of the old firebox tender a shovel of coal at about 44 seconds. Opening the shutters to the fire pit the fireman would stoke the fire by throwing a shovel full of coal into the inferno. Keeping the coals at a constant level of burn enabled steam to be produced in the boiler, and produced power to the train’s wheels. It was backbreaking work. At day’s end the fireman looked a coal when he stepped off the engine. His wife waited for him at the end of the line and then brought him home. The days of shoveling coal are long gone but the legend of the fireman lives on. When you least expect it, the legendary old fireman will come to you. It is a reminder of how far railroading has come from days gone by and how far it has to go to produce energy efficiency on the rail.

This was a very little competition in a small town called Otterbach. This was Rainer (Bubba’s) 1St ever BBQ competition. There was only three of us who were grilling. Next year shall be bigger, but it was a great start. My grilling team won. Our time was only made of 2 George and my self. We had a lot of little helper. Hoping to compete in more contest. Also hoping to win more contests too.. The end is in Germany, but I explain in English at the end.
